Thanks to Lottery Players the stage 1 award of £260,000 will allow for detailed design work to be undertaken to enable plans to progress to apply for a further grant of £2.5million. This will provide a sustainable use for this important Grade 2 listed building.
The project is a partnership between the building owners, Merseyside Buildings Preservation Trust, and KIND. The building will be used by KIND for a new community hub and centre for learning and excellence based on environmental principles, from which KIND will deliver enhanced and expanded services for local children, their families, and the wider community,
The proposal will bring this iconic building into long-term use and contribute positively to the economic, social and cultural regeneration of Liverpool 8 and surrounding area, and to the wellbeing of the people living there. The project also presents an opportunity to undertake a programme of public engagement relating to the history and heritage of the building itself, and with Liverpool's longstanding Welsh community.
